Action Plan

Sandy City fire truck
Take immediate action
As Mayor of Sandy, Forbush will:
- With the city council, conduct a complete operational review of all city departments
- Solicit feedback from city employees and citizens
- Set meaningful and achievable goals improving the efficiency and accountability of Sandy City government
Restore the voice of the people
Forbush also will establish several citizen committees to research and report to city leadership on ways citizens can have a greater voice in municipal government. Ultimately, this voice will ensure balance within city government to make the best decisions for Sandy.
Restore fiscal responsibility
Sandy needs to better balance its budget and make better fiscal decisions. Forbush will carefully review our priorities, assets, scrutinize our expenses and debt service (interest), and reset our expenditures to better align with our revenues.
Encourage economic growth & diversity
The diversity and health of our business community allows us to provide the
services and quality of life Sandy citizens rely on. Sandy must
initiate an aggressive program to bring both large and small businesses
together to ensure the health and viability of both in meeting the needs of
citizens. Municipal government must encourage residents to invest in Sandy by supporting local
businesses of all kinds. The city must focus more resources to complement the
existing retail and restaurants we enjoy.
Strengthen public safety & value public servants
In a number of surveys conducted in recent years, Sandy citizens have consistently ranked safety as one of their top priorities. Elected officials must value, work to retain and fairly
compensate the professional men and women responsible for our public safety and help them do their jobs to ensure Sandy is as safe and secure as possible.
Expand arts, culture and recreation programs
Arts, culture and recreation contribute to the quality of our lives and our family and must be actively supported by more than just the tax dollars of citizens and patron fees. Forbush will actively pursue a variety of additional funding options that will allow us to better support and expand our options in Sandy for arts, culture, and recreational opportunities.
Encourage commercial reuse
With ongoing vacancies in a number of our commercial centers, municipal government must make intelligent choices to encourage development and maintain the health and viability of existing commercial centers so that they can continue to contribute to the quality of life of Sandy. Forbush will meet with property managers/owners and offer appropriate resources to encourage reuse that
- Meets citizens needs
- Maintains a positive, attractive image
- Provides a diverse economic base for our city’s future.
Allow development options at the gravel pit to be decided by the people
Sandy citizens have an unprecedented opportunity this election to decide whether they want to proceed with mixed-use development at the 107 acre gravel pit, or whether would like to explore more options. The existing zoning of the gravel pit allows for other mixed-use type developments that will bring revenue to Sandy City to support services we all enjoy. Forbush hopes Sandy's citizens can take the time to explore more options.
Respect the outcome of the citizen referendum
As one of five citizen sponsors of the citizen referendum on the gravel pit, Forbush is committed to respecting the wishes of the people as they vote in the November election as well as the rights of the landowner to develop the land within the zone approved by the voters. Over 60 signature gatherers and 6,245 registered voters in Sandy that signed the petitions see this decision as better decided "by voters" than by the "politicians." A single vote may very well make this decision. Forbush encourages Sandy citizens to study the issues carefully and participate in this key vote.
